Himalayan Wool: A Fibre with Roots
Our journeys in India have brought us closer to the people and materials behind Essense. They have also deepened our love for wool: a fibre whose story begins with the sheep, the shepherds and the land.
Through our work with Kullvi Whims in Himachal Pradesh, indigenous Himalayan wool has become part of our own story. Choosing it means valuing a local material and the knowledge needed to turn it into something we can wear and cherish.
Warmth that feels alive
There is a quiet comfort in wool. Its naturally crimped fibres hold air, helping to keep warmth close to the body. Wool also absorbs and releases moisture vapour, helping us feel comfortable as the temperature changes. Its resistance to odour means that a little fresh air can often be enough between wears.
Every fleece has its own character. Softness, strength and texture depend on the sheep and on how the wool is prepared. We love that natural materials ask us to look more closely, to feel their differences and understand what makes each one special.
From the mountains to your everyday
A knitted piece brings many kinds of knowledge together: caring for sheep, sorting a fleece, spinning yarn and finding the rhythm of a stitch. For us, this is where its value begins, long before it reaches a wardrobe.
We want that care to continue once a piece becomes yours. Air it, follow its washing instructions, store it thoughtfully and repair it when needed. We hope our knitwear becomes something familiar and loved, carrying a little of its mountain beginnings into your everyday life.
